Bout 2 of the Madison Roller Derby home season at the Alliant Energy Coliseum began with the “watermelon match” as the reigning champions Quad Squad (0-1) in green took on the Vaudeville Vixens (1-0) in pink. Quad Squad 252, Vaudeville Vixens 143 - View Replay Here
After a close first jam, Quad Squad’s jammer Kenna Vendetta picked up 16 points to quickly pull away from the Vixens. Quad Squad blockers locked down the Vixens’ jammers and held them to only 5 points through 8 jams. The Vixens tried to regroup and slow things down with a time-out but following the short break, the Quad Squad blockers – Lex Aeternitas, Mikki Barrage, Sequin DestroyHer, and Darkhorse – continued their tight blocking which would frustrate the Vixens’ jammers all half. Penalties in the 10th jam for both teams resulted in the highest scoring jam of the half as Kenna Vendetta (Quad Squad) and Hawai’i KO (Vaudeville Vixens) each picked up 16 points. The Quad Squad looked like they were playing ‘keep-away’ as their jammers picked up lead 15 times and their blockers held the Vixens scoreless in 14 of 22 jams in the 1st half. The score at half-time: Vixens 63, Quad Squad 138. The second half started much like the first. Quad Squad jammers consistently grabbed lead and minimized the Vixens’ ability to score. The Vixens weren’t going down without a fight, however. In the 10th jam of the second half, Vixens’ jammer Jostlin’ Hell took full advantage of a power jam and picked up 19 points for her team. Two jams later, LaMarche Madness grabbed 20 points with some strong blocking from her Vixen teammates Radiosmacktive, Hoppe Go Lucky, Bonnie Riot, and Ms. Conduct. In the very next jam, Kentucky Fried Carnage of the Quad Squad put up 12 points and thrilled the crowd when she surprised the Vixens’ jammer and knocked her out of bounds! The exciting come-back that the Vixens experienced in week one wasn’t to be repeated this time as the Quad Squad were just too dominant this time around. The Vaudeville Vixens fell to the Quad Squad, 143-252.
