A friend was a huge fan and I decided to hit up a game! Then shortly after that, I was entertaining somebody who was waiting to have a job interview. While they were waiting I was asking them about themselves, and that person ended up being Dutch Oven (also of the Res Dolls)! She was the leader of the BabyDolls (tryout program) that summer, and it was starting in a week or so. So it was divine derby intervention, the timing was perfect. Proudest interleague moment: Team-wise, my proudest moment in my head right now is beating Naptown this year. It just reminded me that we are strong, we are relevant, we can pull out upsets against teams that are "supposed" to beat us. Personally, my proudest derby moment is a tie between knocking down Racer-McChaseHer (Detroit), and pulling a cut on Jackie Daniels (Windy City Rollers). Players that inspire you, MRD or otherwise: Shaina Serlson (formerly of the Denver Rollergirls, currently on the Rose City Rollers). 'Nuff said. 2014 interleague goals: Keep plugging away at higher ranked teams. When I'm not participating in derby, you'll find me: At Monkey Bar Gym! Find something you want to be able to do and practice it over and over again until you get it. Ask somebody who knows if it looks right, etc. Be persistent and you'll get there. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I have a bad habit of: Having too many feelings while I'm on the track. My favorite post-bout food is: Beer. The best thing about being a part of MRD is: People in our league work really hard, on skates and off skates, and it's really impressive! Also, MRD is known for being able to party! Her passion rubbed off on me and I decided to go for it and try out. Proudest interleage moment: Playing with Team Unicorn in Paris. 2014 interleague goals? A mutual fiend introduced Glock Ness (of the Res Dolls) to derby. She introduced my roommate to derby. He introduced me to derby. I spectated for a season and then started volunteering with Support. Then I remembered that I can skate and decided I needed to be part of UDO. It's all been downhill from there! Proudest interleague derby moment: Being part of the teeming mass of UDO that descended on St. Louis to spectacularly officiate three bouts. It was wondrous to see our crew make that work, and I'm extremely proud to have been part of the whole thing. People that inspire you, MRD or otherwise: Whistler and Zdork have been my ref role models since the start. They do the job with humility, generosity, good humor, and an outrageous amount of skill.
