The Mad Rollin’ Dolls are making some major changes this fall! As the league gears up for the start of their 15th year of bringing roller derby action and community to Madison, Wisconsin, they’ll be doing it with a brand new name: Madison Roller Derby! Along with the new name, the skaters will be rolling under a new logo for Season 15, one that encompasses the spirit of roller derby while paying homage to the city between the lakes that they call home. The new name and logo are all part of a recognition of the evolution of the league, and of the guiding mission and vision of being a real, strong, athletic, revolutionary sport. MRD is proud to be doing the work to become a more radically inclusive place for people with a wide variety of identities, backgrounds, abilities, and goals. Madison Roller Derby is also thrilled to finally be unveiling a new crop of mini-athletes: The Mad Calves Junior Roller Derby Team!. The program will begin holding sessions this winter and is open to all genders, ages 8-18. To get more information, contact Juniors Leadership. Meanwhile, the search for a new venue and the fundraising to support it continues. The league still hopes to either buy, lease, or build a space for holding practices, games, and other community events.
